A post that is neither cars nor cooking but it does involve engines of a different type so it sort of counts!

I was lucky enough to be invited along by someone who works on the RAF Base at Coningaby,  home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and one of only two (currently) airworthy Lancaster bombers.

Due to things being more than a little hectic recently, my blog has taken more than bit of a backseat. So has my cooking.

Today I have started things off by reorganising my Pinterest account as the Food board was just too unwieldy. I have split it into various categories, mainly organised by the main meat ingredient. Please have a look around and let me know what you think.




Liebster Award

Readers who have seen my post on being nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award will know I have a certain amount of cynicism towards these blogger awards.

First of all the good stuff: I still got a warm, fuzzy feeling when the nomination notification came through from Yummy with no money, it’s a great way to let other bloggers know you appreciate the posts you have read and it may direct your readers to a blog they may not have found otherwise.

The not do good stuff: there is no physical award, this is peer awarded by nomination, if it goes on for long enough,  every blogger will have one. It also feels a bit like those chain letters that I used to get as a kid.

Taking the above into account, I will do the same as I did for the Sunshine Blogger Award and take the time to answer the questions Emily set, I will highlight some blogs I enjoy but I won’t be officially nominating other blogs.

Now onto those questions:

If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?

Probably chocolate although the sensible part of me says that to actually get nutrition it should be slightly broader so my second favorite food would perhaps be best, beef stew.

What’s your favourite type of cuisine?

I do enjoy good, old traditional British grub, toad in the hole, stew, the great British roast and not forgetting a good fried breakfast.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Wine. Lots and lots of wine. I really do enjoy exploring the world of wine even though my palate is not very good.

What’s your dream job?

The one I have now! In all seriousness, working in motorsport and helping develop grassroots motorsport is a passion of mine and I love working in this sector.

What’s your favourite hobby (apart from blogging!)?

Motorsport, especially vintage cars. I’ve been a volunteer at motorsport events for well over 20 years.

Who is your motivation?

A lot of my cooking and my involvement in motorsport is inspired by my late Nan. She was a very strong woman and nobody messed with her!

What three items would you take on a desert island with you?

A book (The Count of Monte Cristo), a lifetime supply of wine and, more practically, a damn good knife!

If you had to move abroad, where would you choose to live?

The South Island of New Zealand, I absolutely fell in love with the place when we went out there.

What is your favourite thing about yourself?

This is more difficult! Probably my adaptability, life has thrown some curve balls my way but I think I’ve come out the other side as a pretty grounded individual.

What will always cheer you up?

Chocolate, wine or seeing my Small Person!

Back to the food, this is a Pinterest recipe that I’ve adapted. The Other Half would have liked more meat but he is an out and out carnivore, there was plenty of chorizo in there for me and the Small Person.

Meal Planning 21/02/16

I thought it would be interesting to pop up a post with our planned meals so far, usually we stick to it (relatively well) but end up changing a day or two. I am not at home Thursday evening so have not planned beyond Wednesday currently.

Sunday – Chicken in milk – a Jamie Oliver recipe where a whole chicken is oven cooked in a close fitting pot. We had this today and I’ll be writing it up soon.

Monday – Chicken, bacon and mushroom pie, loosely based on a recipe from LoveFoodHateWaste

Tuesday – Chorizo and Butter Bean Stew – a recipe found on Pinterest. You can follow me here.

Wednesday – Pork with mushroom pilaf – no recipe for this one. I fancied a rice dish and I’ve never made a pilaf before so it will be a case of doing some research beforehand and amalgamating several sources of inspiration!

I have not got a far as Friday yet so if anyone has any inspiration, feel free to let me know in the comments below.

Most the dishes above will be getting a write up at some point but I’ll also be trying to fit in some blogging101 homework and writing my recipes down in my blog book so I can remember when what I did when I type them up!
